GIMP Plugin Registry

I downloaded the wavelet-denoise 2 file and placed the .exe file in the plugin directory. My .cr files are not recognized by Gimp as an image file. When I try to open one as a file Gimp complains about tiff stuff and won't open the file. I have closed Gimp and opened it a few times. When I open a .jpg file, the filter shows up on the filter list, however I thought the installation of the wavelet-denoise filter would allow me to open the .cr files my Canon 50D produces. Was that an invalid assumption or am I doing something wrong?

OK, I downloaded the UFRaw app so all is good now.
